Well Then!

What an exciting past few days (she said in a sarcastic tone of voice)

First off, Gabe's MRI went well. He didn't have any issues with the i.v. or the anesthesia to put him to sleep. In fact, he had a liquid drug that made him goofy as all get out and it was pretty funny watching him and hearing him talk. Whenever he and I go to the doctor, we ask each other "ok, what's your number?" (on the pain scale)
He said to me, in a drug induced stupor, "Nine. No! Blue. Ha ha, I'm the magic number" It was hilarious. It took the edge off that was for sure. He went under fine and every single person who came in contact with him before and after the procedure (when he was awake that is) made a point to tell me how polite and sweet he was. Always a good thing to hear.

Thursday nights we've been going to an additional dance class to get ready for Bitsy's big recital in two weeks. We got to class and she was a bit lethargic BUT she'd spent the whole day with Aubrey driving Aunt Katie crazy, so I figured she was just tired. Halfway through class she started to cough so hard she was crying. She was miserable, so I made an appointment with our pediatrician for the next day. By the end of class she was coughing so hard she was starting to wheeze (By the way, I blame this ALL on our pediatrician who early in the week had asked if she still wheezed! Dang it Dr. S! ha ha) My throat had been sore all week, but I get strep throat all the damn time (I'm a carrier of strep, hooray) and around this time of year I always have a sore throat.

We ended up going to urgent care where the doctor told me that Bits had strep throat. I said "well then, you ought to take a look at this" and opened my mouth. I swear he shuddered when he saw how swollen my throat was. He said "ok, then, you have strep also, let me listen to you since you've recently had pneumonia" Oh joy of joys! I STILL had pneumonia. Six weeks of feeling like crap apparently should have been my tip off. Bits got another antibiotic and is fine, I got my third antibiotic in six weeks and am finally starting to feel a bit more human. In addition to antibiotics, I got a lecture from the doctor about not coming in for a follow up. I told him I was pretty sure that pneumonia took a while to clear up and I wasn't worried about it. He conceded, that yes, it does take a while, but it shouldn't take this long. I suppose having pneumonia still explains why I am out of breath five minutes into a work out lately, eh?

Thankfully everyone else is feeling fine and we're all working our way back to normal. I am completely and utterly done with being sick. We are ALL ready for spring to be here permanently so we don't have to deal with this crap anymore.

I hope everyone is happy and healthy and a special congrats today to our dear friends Cindy and Trav who are celebrating 7 years of marriage today. Seems like just yesterday we were at their wedding watching them exchange their vows :) Such a lovely couple-we wish you guys only the best and can't wait to see you soon!!

Catching Up...Again

It feels like all I ever do is play catch up anymore with the blog...not to worry though, we should be back online next week and I'll get back to my regular posting again.

Gabe is well into his second week of first grade and is loving it...and if I can brag a bit about my little bird, he already knows ALL of the first grade sight words-FOR THE YEAR!! They sent home the complete list and he knows all 130 words already. Of course he does, all that child does is read. Honest to God, he gets into bed at around 7:30 each night and is generally still reading at 9:00 when I force him to put the book down. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to hear him and see him reading so much and really enjoying it. We've got "Charlotte's Web" on the shelf thanks to Aunt Buzzy and I think we're going to start reading that at night (and I will pray that unlike every single other time I read the book I won't sob dramatically at the end-I'm lying. I will sob, I know I will. I always sob, even though I've read it a million times and KNOW what is going to happen ha ha)

I have to admit though, I find myself missing Gabe during the day. I got so used to having him around that NOT having him around is really weird. The house is so quiet without him because believe it or not, Bitsy is actually a pretty quiet little thing when there's no one there to egg her on!

Gabe informed me that he has a girlfriend. I asked him to tell me what she looked like and he said "oh, let's see, she has a long brown pony tail *big dramatic sigh* hazel eyes, a nose and a mouth" Ha ha. I suppose that's all we really need to know, right? Also exciting for him this year is the addition of another GABE in his class. The high light of his first day of school this year was sitting with Gabe and comparing lunches. As it turns out, both Gabe's love peanut butter sandwiches and goldfish...

Now onto Miss Bitsy bee. She was going to start preschool this week BUT we decided with everything else going on that a January start date would be more appropriate for her. She's not upset about it as she's happy to be going to story time every Wednesday morning where she is one of the two "big" kids in the group thanks to everyone else going to kindergarten this year. It's been fun to see her personality come out when Gabe isn't around. She's, unfortunately, getting to the major drama queen stage. In fact, two nights ago, Bitsy was laying in her room with her cousin Aubrey and they were both crying...and in between sobs, Bits was catching her breath saying "I...don't...know...why...I'm...crying..." and then would sob again. *shakes head* I think we're in trouble.

We have a new addition to our family, a small black kitten with a white patch on his belly named Jax. The kids LOVE Jax; he's playful, cuddly, and conveniently fits into a doll sized stroller. *shakes head again*

Geo is working working working and I am working occasionally at the library and on the look out for a part time job now that we have someone to watch the kiddos if we need it. I helped JD, Katie, and Aubrey move in this past weekend (Geo's brother and his family) and have been pretty busy with helping them unpack and get adjusted. It's so nice to have family close by though :) The girls are absolutely loving being together...when they aren't sobbing dramatically or arguing about whether or not there are dogs at the zoo...

Hope you are all doing well...look for a massive picture post soon!

Wordless Wednesday: What We've Been Up To

The last week and a half has been busy around the Wit house; we've been gardening, playing, rearranging furniture and all sorts of good stuff. Yesterday at the park, we played on the slides and discovered a birds' nest full of eggs! How weird! Birds have been eating all the leaves off of our plants, but they are strong plants and have been growing back quickly. This weekend we will be getting an owl for the fence and we'll see if that helps. Geo built the most ingenious cages around everything so nothing could get in...but something smaller than the cages is still getting in, hopefully the owl will take care of it. We've had a hawk in our yard for the last week as well-which has been good AND bad; the cat refuses to go outside because of the hawk BUT the ground squirrel population has gone down :) Good and bad :)
Back to normal posting next week, we've got the Michiwits coming in this weekend-enjoy the gorgeous weather!

Uh oh

Well once again, I've fallen behind with posting *blushes* We were offline for about a week and a half and are dealing with a temperamental computer that doesn't like to come back on when it's shut off, so it's been a bit of a challenge as of late to get on and actually post.

George has left the electrical department and is now only running the plumbing department at his store; which is fine because our bathroom floor needs to be ripped out and replaced and he'll have to do some plumbing work to make that happen ;) he he. He had a week off and we spent the week relaxing and enjoying the kiddos together.

I am *officially* a college student again. I will be starting my classes a few days after Gabriel starts school in August. I am taking "An Introduction to Special Education", "Marriage and Family" (a sociology class that looks incredibly interesting) and "Journalism and Democracy" which is right up my alley. I'm excited to get back "on the horse" so to speak.

Gabriel is a little fire cracker, to say the least. He has been loving this warm weather. He had his first playdate the other day with a little boy his age. They jumped on the trampoline, wrestled, and got incredibly muddy. I'm told this is normal for boys his age ;)

SarahAnne is a non stop talking machine (at least around those she is comfortable with) She is SO expressive with her face, she wiggles her eyebrows, crosses her arms in front of her, and my personal favorite, is when she furrows her brow, gets a very serious look on her face and says "hmmmm" when thinking about answering a question. Her new favorite word is "actually" and she says it whenever she thinks it might be appropriate. Goofy girl.

And now for a few pictures...

He totally posed for this one, he said "Hey mom, take my picture like this" What a ham!
