Happy Birthday Hunky Hubby
*whew* I made it! A very happy birthday to my very own hunky hubby Geo today! I'm pretty much the luckiest girl in the world to have you for a hubby...here's to many more happy birthdays together! Love you!

He's So Flaky
Geo has been making mashed potatoes at work for the past few days as a result we're finding potato flakes EVERYWHERE. (and I do mean everywhere) The car smells like potatoes from his ride home, I found flakes in the console yesterday on the way to the grocery store. My pillows and sheets have potatoes on them, have you ever gotten into bed at the end of the day and laid down on potato flakes? I have and it's not pleasant. Anything in the laundry baskets that has Geo's clothes on them picks up a potato scent, which is an interesting smell to say the least, particularly mixed with sweaty socks and sweats from the gym. He he.
All in all, it really is a small price to pay to have a happy hubby who loves his job...even if that does mean he actually HAS potatoes in his ears at the end of his shift.

Houston We Have a Problem
And it's getting out of control...
We have books all over the house. At any given time there are five or ten piled up on the table next to my chair in the living room, we have a HUGE plastic crate filled with kids books in the living room, I have a pile of books in the kitchen to be returned to the library, we have two bookshelves in the rec room PLUS a stand that I keep filled with books (and the crate of Montessori books I keep at hand) Then...upstairs. The kids both have a full bookshelf, Gabe has a table next to his bed that is covered in books, today I cleaned under Bitsy's bed and found TEN books that had slid off after she fell asleep reading AND in our room we have a full bookshelf and my night stand has books on top of it that I am reading, not to mention that under the night stand I have a pile of books as well. (did I mention the books we still have in storage OR the books in my "craft" room that are all for crafting?)
Thankfully I have an especially tolerant husband who doesn't seem to mind all these books all over the place (oh...and the cookbooks in the kitchen, how could I forget those? and the pile of books on the back of the toilet...) but seriously, we are being over run with books.
It's completely and utterly my mother's fault. That's right Mom-it's ALL your fault. You instilled a love of reading and books and shopping at yard sales and resale shops (and the library book sales...and church sales and friends' houses...) for books. I rarely pay full price for a book so it's almost as if it doesn't count as a "book" PLUS I'm the Friends of the Library president and I get first dibs on the books when they come in as donations...I am fairly certain that I am providing the FOL with at least 50% of it's profit on books every month ha ha.
Did I mention this is my mom's fault? Because maybe it's not ALL her fault...maybe Gabe is to blame too. I mean, how else do you explain that the other day when I went to the bookstore I couldn't bring myself to pick just ONE book for myself, so instead I got him two new books? (and Bits two new books as well, because really, we have to be fair here...) Maybe if he wasn't such a voracious little reader, I wouldn't have to buy books all the time. Yeah, that's it, it's ALL Gabe's fault.
Well maybe not, maybe it's Geo's fault for putting up with so many books...unlike the yarn balls that he insists I either use or pass on to other people (I just gave away 15 yarn balls...) he never discourages me from bringing books home. So it's Geo's fault, just as much as it is my mom and Gabe's fault.
Before you say "Well why buy books when you can borrow them from the library?" I need to say this, I have a problem. A huge problem, bigger than the books in the house...at any given time there are AT least ten books on my wait list at the library and I have four or five checked out. I am one of those people who DEFINITELY get my tax dollars out of my library membership. At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to read 100 NEW books this year. By March I had surpassed it. I have lost count of the new books I've read this year.
Actually, you know who's fault this REALLY is? My sisters. Yep, it's Tori's fault. She reads almost as much as me (Though a lot of it is for school) and she is CONSTANTLY giving me suggestions for books and of COURSE I have to take them. I mean, what kind of sister would I be if I didn't take her advice on books? Also, I feel the need to add that she also contributes to the amount of books in this house...in fact, the last time we saw her I brought a bag of books home! (I left a bag up there too, so it's a trade off, right??? he he)
Alright, I admit it, it's my own darn fault there are so many books in this house. I love to read, I read constantly, and I can't get enough of a good book (Though I will finish a bad book too, just so I can say I finished it) I read quickly, I read often and I am SO SO lucky that both of my kids have picked up my reading habits. Books transport you to new worlds without having to leave your house, books have the power to inspire, make you feel good, make you realize how good you have it and generally give you a new perspective on life.
and besides that, who doesn't love an excuse to curl up under a fleecy blanket with a hot mug of tea and a book??

Gobble Gobble
Gabriel came home with a very important assignment; disguise Tom Turkey so no one can eat him on Thanksgiving. Geo and Gabe being the Blackhawks nuts they are decided to turn him into Patrick Kane, stud right wing for the Hawks. Much fun was had by both of the boys as they transformed Tom Turkey into Tom Turkane...see if you can pick the biggest "turkey" out of the bunch (hint, she's wearing Tinkerbell pjs he he)

Jammin' For Joey
I now interrupt this normally happy sappy blog with something a bit different...
As most of you know, George lost his little brother Joey in an accident nearly five years ago; like George and JD, Joey was an excellent bowler. After Joey passed away a scholarship fund was set up in Joey's name and for the past four years, our family has been able to give two deserving high school kids a $100 scholarship toward higher learning. After this years' scholarship presentation, however, the scholarship fund ran dry. Not wanting to see this scholarship stop, a woman who was (and still is) involved with the league Joey bowled on set up "Jammin' For Joey" with help from another local bowling alley, a nightclub, and a local band. Tonight in West Chicago, at The Kingpin Nightclub(@Bowling Green Sports Center) from 7:00-10:00 p.m. the band Back Stage Pass is going to be playing. Tickets are $20 at the door with all proceeds going to the scholarship fund...if you're not able to make it and would still like to make a donation (in whatever amount you see fit) please contact me and I'll let you know how you can do that...and if you are unable to contribute financially, please keep us in your prayers, as we know it's going to be a fairly difficult night for all of us; a very bittersweet night indeed.

Big Ole' Update Coming At You
I haven't done a proper update in quite some time, so here we go.
George: Lowe's has decided that they are doing some restructuring, which never seems like a good thing, does it? Thankfully, George won't be losing his position; the departments he manages are going to be split up, so he has a bit less responsibility but no loss of pay. He's actually relieved that they are being split up, the departments he runs keep him so busy he's bringing work HOME, which is a no no for our family.
Chrissi: I'm going to be a full time student again in the fall AND quite frankly, that scares me a bit. ha ha. Gabe will be in school, it'll just be Bitsy and me. I am going to probably take online courses the first semester and see how I do and go from there. I should have my registration info later this week...then the fun part, applying for scholarships, etc, starts!
Gabriel: He had his MRI's two weeks ago, we get the results next week. Overall, Gabriel is doing VERY well. He's only seeing his physical therapist once every other month and sees his occupational therapist once a week, however she is in Ghana right now on a mission trip, so he's taking a break from her ;) We are getting ready for Gabe's birthday party in a few weeks, he's decided on a Chicago Black Hawks party; the child is a hockey NUT. He knows half the players on the Hawks, and while they are his favorite team, he always roots on the other team as well. He he. So cute. He excited about starting kinder in the fall and always thinks the bus is coming for him (it goes by our house four times a day) poor kiddos has NO concept of time ;)
SarahAnne: The Bits. Well, she's a holy terror, hell on wheels, if you will, and just amuses us to no end. She is all about the potty lately, she steps onto her stool and perches her little booty on the seat and that's that. No help from momma or daddy at all. The little stinker is so independent it hurts ;) Her vocabulary is huge and lately when something happens that she doesn't like, she says "awww nuts!" To hear her say it just cracks us up to no end.
Sammy the cat. He has a new name, it just kind of stuck. We started calling him Samboni, because of the nutty hockey fans in the house and now he's just "boni" Gabe and Bits chase him and terrorize him like it's their job. And God love this cat, he's never scratched, hissed, or bit them. He is so tolerant of them. He has a "birthday"coming up soon, he'll be three. Gabe has suggested we "invite over a lot of cats" for a party for him. SarahAnne suggested that we invite Aubrey as well. So, you know, if you have a cat that wants to come celebrate a birthday, send him over :) Catnip toys appreciated :)
And that's that, I think that brings everyone up to speed. I will post when I know the results of Gabe's MRI and spinal x rays (later in February) Stay warm everyone!
